Appalachian Trail - Kelly Knob (From Route 42)October 18, 2008 8.2 mile round trip. It was a gloomy, cold day but a great hike. This hike is actually on the Appalachian Trail and starts on Route 42. The beginning is pasture land and very pretty. This is followed by the long forest section. Along the way there's an ancient abandoned house with strange black handprints all over, a couple of stream crossings and a shelter. The ultimate goal, though, is Kelly Knob which gives an outstanding view. You can also view this hike
