I use my spare computer time for prime number research. I occasionally am asked about these primes. Some people seem to think there is a complete list (or formula) somewhere of every prime. There isn't. The one's I've found were never known to be primes until I discovered them. July 2001 Update: I found my 5th titanic prime number! My discoveries are (rankings at time of discovery are shown): Oct 6, 1999: 501*2^176392+1 (the 48th largest known prime with 53,102 digits). July 30, 2001: 505*2^150714+1 (the 556th largest known prime with 45,373 digits). Oct. 29, 2000: 501*2^122919+1 (the 440th largest known prime with 37,006 digits). Aug 2, 1999: 501*2^102983+1 (the 255th largest known prime with 31,004 digits). Sep 1, 2000: 505*2^100534+1 (the 591st largest known prime with 30,267 digits).
